The first days of September marked the beginning of a series of trainings that the British School of Sofia (BSS) staff members underwent to raise their qualifications and take on the challenges posed by the new academic year more effectively.
A focus on academic integrity, especially within the context of the IB curriculum, was one of the primary areas of consideration.
As per the presentation that we explored together during the training, “academic integrity should be the sole responsibility of the students, with minimal intervention from teachers and administrators.”
We also explored new realities in the realm of digital technologies and education. Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the innovations bound to make waves and disrupt our lives in more ways than one. The manner in which it’s going to be used for educational purposes is up for discussion and we’re yet to see the full potential of this new tool unfold.
Our teachers and staff members also underwent training and workshops focused on better communication, the use of visual tools in the teaching process, the best learning and educational approaches within both the primary and the secondary context, and the specifics of the IB programme that have the biggest impact on the way learning opportunities are made available in the classroom.
At the end of the day, we firmly believe in the essence of learning, as captured in the following quote: “Learning should not only take us somewhere; it should allow us later to go further more easily.”
Our approaches to teaching and learning are linked to the development of internationally-minded students – one of the central IB programme tenets. To learn more about our educational philosophy and the curricula we employ, please take a look at the following
