Consistency paired with talent leads to incredible accomplishments.
The British School of Sofia (BSS) taekwondo team dominated all the competitions that we attended during the academic year 2025/2026. Here’s a recap of the incredible achievements that happened under the guidance of coach Stoyan Panayotov.

In October, the BSS athletes participated in the Balkan Taekwondo Championship that was held in Doupnitsa. The championship brought together taekwondo practitioners from 13 Balkan countries.
One of our most accomplished athletes, Yasmin, won a silver medal, contributing to Bulgaria’s standing as the overall champion in the competition.

Over 1,200 athletes from numerous countries participated in the Korean Ambassador’s Cup, a prominent event organised by the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation.
BSS students and coach Panayotov brought home a total of 10 medals. Coach Panayotov won two, while BSS students contributed to the impressive total count with five gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.

This international competition brought together over 1,100 athletes from 13 countries. Bulgarian teams won the largest number of medals, followed by competitors from Moldova and Spain.
Our student Ivan demonstrated the importance of spirit, perseverance, strength, and athletic excellence. After an incredibly challenging semi-final round in the super competitive cadet -49 kg category, Class A, he deservingly brought home the bronze medal.

Even the youngest of athletes can become champions when they’re motivated and guided to feel excited about excelling in a sport.
Our youngest taekwondo superstars recently dominated the competitive games championship organised by Taekwondo Club Samson.
We left the Little Champions Day – Competitive Games Tournament with an impressive medal count. British School of Sofia students deservingly won two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.
Under the skilful guidance of coach Stoyan Panayotov, our athletes have demonstrated outstanding abilities during every single competition they’ve joined since the start of the academic year. We hope their hard work, discipline, and commitment to self-improvement continue to be recognised in the future.

Ongoing learning and self-improvement are the keys to lasting success in any field.
In the realm of sports, athletes always have something new to learn and another challenge to conquer.
To end the year on the strongest possible note, the BSS taekwondo team successfully passed their new belt grading examination.
Yasmin, Ivan, and Maxim all achieved success during the examination process. Ivan’s rank now is just two grades away from reaching the coveted black belt.
Taekwondo is offered as one of the various extracurricular activities at the British School of Sofia.
Coach Panayotov puts emphasis on both athletic and personal development within the realms of the programme. Through participation in taekwondo practice, our students improve their athletic ability, build strength, discipline, and self-respect.
Extracurricular activities are an essential element within a holistic programme that helps children grow both as learners and as individuals. Sports and creativity-based activities give students a better understanding of their strengths and talents, allowing them to focus their efforts in the right direction.
