The world of robots and artificial intelligence is captivating for every generation, and the students at the British School of Sofia (BSS) have the advantage of entering the world of technology at an early age.
BSS is the first Apple school in Bulgaria, and students use their iPads daily as part of their education. This sets them apart from many of their peers who study science and technology separately.
As the first digital Bulgarian school, the British School of Sofia introduces computer technology education as early as the first grade. In the 9th grade, students take ICT exams, and in the 11th grade, they study Information Technology in a Global Society.
Children from 1st to 4th grade work with educational LEGO sets as part of the design and technology curriculum, while students from fifth to eighth grade study robotics and begin to learn programming.
The goal of this education is to prepare young people for their future careers, in which their achievements will inevitably depend on technology.
Thanks to the highly skilled ICT teachers at the British School of Sofia, students develop practical skills and knowledge. Information technology and mathematics are key components of the BSS educational program, and the students' efforts naturally lead to success and outstanding results.
Recently, sixth-grade students from the British School of Sofia excelled in a global mathematics competition for students from British schools located outside the United Kingdom (accredited by COBIS - Council of British International Schools).
The children participated for the first time in the Small Primary category of the CENTURE+COBIS Maths All Stars Cup and achieved an incredible second place in the world in this category, competing against more than 160 British schools from 61 countries!
The impressive marathon ended with Lea Sansum from BSS ranking first in Europe, and the BSS team falling just 100 questions short of the Corona School Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria, who won this year's CENTURE+COBIS Maths All Stars Cup in the Small Primary category.
In Europe, the students from the British school in Bulgaria occupy the top positions in the Small Primary category of the CENTURE+COBIS Maths All Stars Cup due to their outstanding performance as a team.
As a reward for their incredible mathematics success, the sixth-grade students were chosen to visit the Robotics Club at the Technical University - Sofia, RoboClub.bg. They had an inspiring opportunity to learn about the club's activities and projects related to competitive robotics, AI-controlled robot management, electronics and embedded systems, 3D printing, and modeling - all practices related to prototyping.
We expect that the visit to the Robotics Club will motivate them to achieve even greater success and encourage them to study ICT technologies with even greater enthusiasm!
The British School of Sofia expresses gratitude to the leadership of the Technical University - Sofia for the partnership! We hope that our students will continue their education at this prestigious Bulgarian university.
