During the month of May at the British School of Sofia, the students enthusiastically engaged in a series of captivating cinema-related meetings.
First, they were visited by the wonderful actress Kristina Veroslavova. Then, selected scenes of the new Bulgarian film "CyberCrime" were filmed on the territory of BSS kindergarten. Coming up on Monday, a casting agency will be looking for new talents at the school.
In response to the eager request of the 11th grade students, BSS arranged a meeting with Mariyan Valev—an accomplished actor, screenwriter, and director. Joining him was the radiant actress Eleonora Ivanova, popularly known as Nori, who played the lead role in his recently released film 'Chalga'.
It turned out that many of our students, who grew up in Bulgaria, are big fans of Mariyan Valev and especially of his role in the cult series "Undercover".
The students were incredibly excited to see him, eagerly waiting at the school entrance. The meeting commenced earlier than scheduled, with the 11th graders taking photos, collecting autographs, and asking questions.
Then, in the classroom, the topics the two artists raised were extremely interesting and thought-provoking.
Marijan Valev went into philosophical topics related to choices, compromises, inspiration in the film industry and the three types of films on the market, which he tentatively called "art", "main stream" and "pop corn". He explained how actors and everyone in the film industry sometimes make compromises, other times take risks to find themselves. Marian talked about the different style in building an image from the actors and the director's work when he has to bring out the potential of each artist.
Nori, the young and talented actress, graciously shared her personal journey thus far, emphasizing the role of serendipity in securing pivotal roles that serve as stepping stones for future professional engagements. She candidly spoke about the numerous rejections she encountered during auditions, which never discouraged her from pursuing the path she had chosen.
The meeting ended with interviews that Mariyan Valev and Eleonora Ivanova gave to our students. You can see them soon on the BSS Youtube channel.
