Dear teachers,
We are reaching out to you in regards to our project, Save the Planet. Essentially, we are addressing the pressing issue of our planet’s gradual demise through this project. The only way to tackle this issue is if people adopt self-discipline to reduce, reuse, and recycle resources, and cultivate environmentally-friendly habits. Therefore, we aim to present a variety of ideas to help people develop such habits subconsciously, and raise awareness about the gravity of this problem. Climate change, pollution, deforestation and other factors contribute to this issue, and we plan to focus on minimising the causes originating from schools, such as excessive paper printing and plastic waste. Our intention is to educate both students and teachers about sustainability, and encourage them to practice eco-friendly habits themselves, setting a good example and contributing to the preservation of our planet.
The project is geared towards children, ranging from kindergarten to grades 3-12. For kindergarten students, we will provide an interactive presentation with recycled cardboard and paper to teach them about recycling and encourage them to take initiative along with their teachers. Students will hand-paint posters with green, blue, white, and yellow colours to display around the school.
For grades 3-12, we will conduct a formal or TED talk presentation on April 24th to mark the beginning of the project and raise awareness about environmental issues. Additionally, we will create a gardening club for children who are moving into the new building, in order to preserve its plants and garden, and educate the children to be more environmentally conscious.
We will also initiate a challenge or competition for grades 3-12 where the class that collects the most plastic, paper, and bottle caps they've used throughout the week will receive a prize.
To collect the recyclables, we will place recycling bins in the school and donate the plastic caps to the sustainability supporting foundation, "Kапачки за Бъдеще." Additionally, we will take primary school students on field trips to recycling units to learn more about recycling and its impact. We also suggest that instead of paper bags, students could bring their own food containers from home to reduce waste. We will send emails to parents to raise awareness and encourage them to support their children in becoming more environmentally friendly.
The project is not limited to students alone but is also applicable to all staff members. We rely on your support and leadership to ensure its success. Although it may seem small, we believe the project holds significant importance and has the potential to create a meaningful change!
Yours sincerely,
Isabelle, Britney, Lia, Grade 11 — ‘Save the Planet’ team
