Empowering Educators: BSS Teachers Enhance Skills at 'Making the PYP Happen' Workshop

04 Dec 2023

In the dynamic world of education, the teacher's role extends beyond traditional instruction boundaries. At the British School of Sofia (BSS), we firmly believe in the continuous professional development of our educators. It's a commitment that ensures our teachers are proficient pioneers in employing innovative teaching methods. In line with this philosophy, our teachers recently participated in the enriching "Making the PYP Happen" workshop, a significant step towards enhancing their educational expertise.

The "Making the PYP Happen" workshop, tailored for educators implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), presents an opportunity to delve deep into the PYP's core principles. This workshop is not your usual teacher training; it's a transformative experience that redefines the essence of teaching.
Throughout the workshop, our teachers engaged in an intensive exploration of the PYP curriculum. They discovered innovative ways to weave inquiry-based learning into their teaching, craft transdisciplinary units, and authentically assess student progress. These sessions weren't just informative; they were interactive hubs fostering collaborative discussions and exchange of ideas.

Our educators returned from the workshop equipped with invaluable insights into creating dynamic, engaging, and intellectually stimulating learning environments. They learned strategies for designing inquiry-driven lessons that impart knowledge and ignite a lifelong love for learning. An essential component in today's fast-paced and information-rich world, critical thinking skills were cultivated with a sense of importance within our educators by the workshop's instructors.

A pivotal aspect of the learning was the focus on fostering international-mindedness. Our teachers gained perspective on the mechanics of encouraging students to embrace a global outlook, appreciating and understanding the interconnectedness of our world. This approach aligns seamlessly with BSS's vision of nurturing well-rounded, globally aware citizens who excel in international environments. We help the leaders of tomorrow grasp the concept of multiculturalism from a young age and grow up to be exceptionally well-prepared to navigate a world of high academic, career, and personal achievement.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms Michele Helene from the International School of Paris, who expertly led the workshop. Her guidance and insights were instrumental in making this workshop a resounding success.

At BSS, such initiatives are a testament to our commitment to excellence in education. We believe that empowering our teachers is pivotal in shaping the future of our students. By staying abreast of the latest educational trends and methodologies, our teachers are well-prepared to guide our students towards a future filled with endless possibilities and achievements.
