Centaur Wins Again

19 Dec 2019
The House of Centaur wins again in December Houses Competition.

The overall winner of December Houses Competition - Centaur, receives 100 points for the Cup of Houses. They won in November as well in the Arts Competition.

Students from Grades 7 - 11 were divided into 2 groups and competed in Debates. The House of Centaur wins the Debating Competition for Grades 7-8, while the winner in the upper Key Stages - Grade 9 - 11, is the House of Dragon. Debating is an excellent way of improving speaking skills and is particularly helpful in providing experience in developing a convincing argument.

And while the debates were becomming more and more competitive our Performance Hall hosted the Jolly Spelling Competition for Grade 3 - 6. Every House sent a representative from each grade. Students from different grades had to spell different number of words with a different difficulty. The winner from Jolly Spelling Competition is the House of Kraken.

Houses Competition is a traditional feature of British Schools. At BSS we organize a competition at the end of each month and students from the 4 houses: DRAGON, KRAKEN, PHOENIX, CENTAUR compete in three categories: Sports, Creativity and Academic. They collect points and at the end the winner receives the Cup.

The idea of this competition is to divide pupils into groups and thus create smaller communities within the large one. The competition encourages teamwork and healthy competition amongst students.

Pupils are usually assigned to houses randomly with the aim of balancing the houses in order to increase competition. Once a pupil has been allocated to a house they stay with that house as they move up through the year groups.
