International Mindedness

We find the role of a school as an international educational institution a milestone in enhancing international mindedness.

International Mindedness is one of our core values and it is also the foundation of the IB DP – and here is how we embed the concept in our school.

Being an international school with more than 10 years history now we found that as much as the world is turning into a global place we should be more and more open to its diversity. We educate students from more than 45 nationalities and that makes our intention to create intercultural understanding a mission.

We are trying and we must admit – succeeding in enhancing internationally-minded approach to the world in our students through school and community life and events. We involve our international students and parents in a number of cross-cultural events that focus on their home countries and culture. Every year we organize events whose slogans and topics are inevitably committed to the international community we have created so far. We invite our whole community to celebrate the international mindedness. And we strive to the statement that we are a part of a global community and every member of it realizes we should be responsible to every member.

Language learning is another key feature of our school – implemented as early as possible, that ensures students are exposed to different cultures at an early age. They start learning a second foreign language in Grade 3 at the age of 8. And they also have obligatory Bulgarian language lessons in order to be aware of the history, culture and literature of the country they are living in. We celebrate languages diversity and the world’s literacy heritage on a specially dedicated to languages event in May – the Languages Week.

International mindedness is also implemented in the curriculum – from Early Years Foundation Stage and Primary 1 to the graduates from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The IB mission statement: “The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.” also correlates to the international mindedness implementation in schools. It is also in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - 17 life-changing goals, outlined by the UN in 2015.

We present to your attention recent presentations form our Grade 4 students on the topic International Mindedness – International Primary Curriculum. Their task was to compare their home countries and to outline some differences. They demonstrated eagerness to work in teams and to present their projects.
