British School of Sofia and Kindergarten successfully passed an inspection by Penta International in 2015 and 2018 with Outstanding recognition. It is part of the only British School Overseas (BSO) in Bulgaria registered in Edubase with Unique Registration Number: 142484.

British Kindergarten of Sofia covers the educational standards and requirements set by the Department for Education, United Kingdom to be a registered British School Overseas.

British Kindergarten of Sofia follows the International Early Years Foundation Stage (IEYC) curriculum. The IEYC is a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for every subject. The International Early Years Curriculum is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum for 2 - 5 year olds. It covers all the aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage provision, including learning goals and developmental stages. 

The Early Years Foundation Stage is a framework for children up to the age of five. It is based on the recognition  that children learn best through play and active learning. The curriculum sets standards for the learning, development and care of the child setting out 7 key areas of learning around which activities should be based: 3 Prime areas: Communication and language, Physical development, Personal Social and Emotional Development; and 4 Specific areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive arts and design.

Jolly Phonics as well as the Letters and Sounds Phonics programmes are used to develop pupils’ reading skills. Jolly Phonics, teaches children to read and write using synthetic phonics, which is widely recognised as the most effective way to teach children to read and write in English.

BSS Kindergarten Facilities

British School of Sofia's facilities secure the smooth and enjoyable learning process. Our school is equipped and furnished to high standards. Children enjoy spending the day in their classrooms or on the playground.

Kindergarten Building
The design and construction of the building simply corresponds to its purpose - to be a Kindergarten. It meets all standards of children's educational facility. 

Kindergarten Dining Room
The kindergarten dining room is a spacious and airy room, colourfully furnished, with comfortable tables and chairs. The children love the fairy treehouse painting on the wall.

Kindergarten Classroom
The classrooms have large windows, they are well lit and aired. There are cozy theme corners in the room, where children happily participate in various activities.

Kindergarten Mathematics Centre
The Kindergarten Indoor Space is organized in Learning Centers. Every day the children have the chance to choose to which centre they would like to go. The Math centre aims to develop children`s logical thinking and mathematical skills.

Kindergarten Literacy Centre
Our Kindergarten provides special Literacy classes, where children learn to read and write in English. The children get key literacy lessons as well as general understanding of the link between kindergarten, home and the world around us.

Kindergarten ICT Centre
Our curriculum provides special ICT classes in which the children could learn in the form of playing games, as well as being prepared for the quickly developing Digital world.

Kindergarten Outdoor Centre
Here, the children jump and run to recharge the energy. At British Kindergarten of Sofia we care of children`s free spirit and physical health.

Sleeping Area
Here, the children have their sleep in a comfy area, listening to a good music.


Kindergarten Admissions and Fees

British School of Sofia welcomes children in the Kindergarten as follows:

  • Pre-Nursery - children from 2 - 3 years old
  • Nursery 1 - children from 3.5 - 4 years old
  • Nursery 2 - children from 4.5 - 5 years old
  • Reception - children from 5.5 - 6 years old

Children who turn 2 years old can be enrolled in the school the same year of their birthday.

British School of Sofia Kindergarten follows Cambridge Early Years & Foundation Stage programme.

How to apply?

  1. Fill in the online application form, which you may find  here.
  2. After a consideration of the application, the Аddmissions officer will contact you to invite you to an individual interview in a day and time convenient to both sides.

Once parents receive notification of acceptance of their child, they need to submit the necessary documents for registration and pay the enrolment fee.

  1. Filled Confirmation of Enrollment;
  2. Copy of child’s Birth Certificate and / or Passport;
  3. Copies of parents’ Passports;

Medical documents needed for enrolment in Kindergarten (2 – 5 years old) at BSS

  1. Health prophylactic card child completed by GP (General Practitioner);
  2. Single negative test result for pathogenic intestinal bacteria and intestinal parasites, carried out not earlier than 15 days before the child's admission to kindergarten;
  3. Tests of blood and urine tests performed within one week before the child's admission to kindergarten;
  4. Data from GP for immunization status of the child, in accordance with Regulation N15 2005 immunizations in Bulgaria. (OG. 45th 2005);
  5. Medical note from your GP about the lack of contact with infected patients;
  6. Information about the GP;

Children who apply for enrollment in Kindergarten do not need to know English.

BSS Kindergarten School Day

Our school day accommodates all the core, additional and the extracurricular activities which helps us to detect and develop the potential of every child. Here are some of the activities:

Story Time
This is the time when children gather together to spend unforgettable moments in the world of fairy tales.

Computer Education
The Early computer training complies with the age of the children. Children are gradually introduced to the world of the computers.

The dance creates the sense of rhythm and melody, provides coordinated movements, creates love for the beauty, grace, aesthetic values, strive for perfection.

Art and Craft

Art and Craft Classes are great for learners of all ages. These activities encourage the little artists by teaching them painting, drawing, scrapbooking, photography and more. The Art and Craft Classes are one of the most influential, profound and far-reaching among students.

BSS Art and Craft classes expand children's knowledge of textiles, cardboard, paper, clay, from which children create various beautiful things.

These are the moments of emotional satisfaction and positive attitude. Drama develops the imagination, creative thinking, flexibility and child's talent.

Physical development
These classes build motor skills in children, improve their overall physical ability and create a positive attitude to sport.

Playing Culture
We aim to create a suitable environment in which the children learn to play, understand the team spirit, the rules and roles in the game.
