About BSS

Principal's welcome

Dear students and parents,

In our high-tech age, education is like a “buried treasure” which promises success and a competitive edge in later life. There is a direct link between the level of education and professional success. Better education enhances the chances for success in later life. In many countries around the world, elite schools are a guarantee for a successful career.

The British School of Sofia appeared in Bulgaria as a response to the need for high quality education. It is a school which aims to create young people who have the competitive skills to pursue careers all over the world. Our school day finishes at 17.30 and pupils go home with a broad smile on their faces. The next morning they cross the threshold of the school with the same smile. What makes us very happy and very proud is that our school is full of smiling children.

I would like to wish all our pupils a very successful school year. I would also like to wish my colleagues success in dealing with all the challenges of British School of Sofia.

I wish everyone health and happiness!

History

British School of Sofia was established in 2010 as a response to the need for quality education that creates competitive people who can and will develop further, both in Europe and worldwide. Success is a product of prestige, ambition and competency. This is exactly what children obtain at the British School of Sofia - a high European level of education.

We are the first British school in Bulgaria covering the entire range of the British program of study - from pre-school to high school. Our educational standards fully comply with the strict requirements and criteria of Great Britain. Our pupils are immersed in an English language environment from an early age and learn the language to a native level. We are one of a handful of British Schools beyond the shores of the United Kingdom, which uses the British educational model and provides British certificates for all levels of education. The British School of Sofia is a part of the British educational system and its certificates are equivalent to the certificates provided by all British schools. They are the same regardless of where the pupils study.

The British School of Sofia is a Bulgarian response to the ideas of united Europe. It is a school where European languages and cultures are studied and the roots of European identity are discovered. English and Bulgarian are studied as native languages at all levels of education. In third grade children begin studying Latin and a second modern language, choosing between French, Spanish or German. These languages continue to be studied until the end of school. At high school level, students begin to study a third modern language.
On the other hand, the educational and training process at British School of Sofia, is aimed at the overall development of the children's personality and their transformation into thinking people who ask questions, both in the classroom and outside it. Our aim is to instill in our students’ positive attitude to the world and to studying, creating in children a conscious interest in long life learning. The process of acquiring knowledge is not limited to traditional objects, but reflects real in-depth study and discussion of the real life issues. Our students grow and become people, who are prepared to take on every challenge in their life.
