Project “S.C.H.O.O.L. +” - Erasmus + Programme

A project that will change the school environment into a student-centred and sustainable school

British School of Sofia (BSS) is proud to announce the beginning of the project S.C.H.O.O.L. + – co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union. The project was initially presented to the BSS community and the first mobility initiative has already begun.

“S.C.H.O.O.L. +” is an acronym for Sustainable, Creative, High-tech, Open-minded, Outside the box and Learning.

With this project we would like the students to become the protagonists of their own learning process and involve them in the shaping of the new model of education. We will offer them a chance to help design the learning process and take an active part in the design of educational spaces, curriculum and methodology. We will prepare students for the fast-changing world where they need to be adaptable, flexible, open-minded, innovative and ready to think creatively and critically.

Webinar - Habits of Mind Introduction

The project started with a webinar “Habits of Mind Introduction”. It is the first Mobility of the project, hosted by BSS.

Our Primary 2 Leader and Thinking Drive Team Leader Ms Sofiya Pimpilova made a brief introduction to Habits of Mind – an essential part of a thinking school. She explained how these habits could be implemented in schools and how we did it a while ago at BSS. Ms Sofiya gave a retrospection about how we have created a thoughtful environment and the strategies we use -Thinking-Based Learning, Visual Tools, Questioning for Enquiry, Concept-Based Learning and Habits of Mind. Habits of Mind are 16 behavioural habits how to behave intelligently. At BSS we have introduced those with assemblies, parents’ workshops and by creating thoughtful environment that welcomes Habits of Mind. And eventually, as we wanted to be un unique we developed BSS Keys to Success (using the IB Learner Profile and combining it with Habits of Mind).

All the participants in the webinar expressed their gratitude and will start adopting the concept in their schools.

About the project

The project started in September 2020 and will finish in April 2022. All the activities will take place in the e-platform E-Twinning.

Participants

Participants in this project are three schools: British School of Sofia, Lope de Vega International School (Benidorm, Spain) and Istituto di Ístruzione Superiore Statale "Carlo Emilio Gadda", Italy.

Objectives

One of the main objectives of the project is to conduct a change in the educational process in a more human-centred manner and thus become student-centred. We would like to involve students in the thinking and decision-making process so they will be able to invent the School of the Future. With this project we will challenge the reality and will strive to achieve sustainable development; to continuously improve the learning-teaching process quality through a lifetime training of the teachers combined with the use of various methodologies, tools, platforms, sources, etc.; to give students equal opportunity no matter of their special needs (gifted, talented, dyslexic, disabled, etc.); to encourage students to use their European cultural background and heritage to create the school of the future and to leave it as a legacy for the generations to come; to help social inclusion through flexible adaptive methodologies and therefore education; to give students reasons and tools to fight early school leaving.

The project will finish with a final mobility - an exhibition of everything that has taken place over the 2-year perios of the project. It will be hosted by BSS again.
